In Extremist Movie Debate, Ethan and Joe’s true feelings about the movie do not matter. They flip a coin to decide who loves the movie and who hates it. They then debate it on the fly. This episode? Wonder Woman.
Oftentimes, hilarity ensues (or just offensive arguments). As always, SPOILERS AHEAD.
Wonder Woman [official trailer]
Does a superhero movie need to connect with an audience at a character level or can a theme carry their interest throughout? This week the gang watched Wonder Woman and it answers that question. Ethan thinks a story about a perfect God-like character offers no opportunity to empathize with the story on the screen. Joe believes watching a naive character familiarize herself with the customs of humanity and war is enough for an audience to get behind. They also discuss the inane idea that the weight of future female-lead/female-directed movies should be laid upon the shoulders of a single film. Unpaid Intern Jeff moderates.
