In Extremist Movie Debate, Ethan and Joe’s true feelings about the movie do not matter. They flip a coin to decide who loves it and who hates it. They then debate it on the fly. This episode? Dunkirk.
Oftentimes, hilarity ensues (or just offensive arguments). As always, SPOILERS AHEAD.
Dunkirk [official trailer]
Does the war genre have more to offer, or has Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, and Full Metal Jacket covered all we need to know? Christopher Nolan is back this year with Dunkirk, his attempt at the war film. Joe thinks this is an inauthentic attempt at making war feel too hopeful with no major losses in characters. Ethan argues we don’t need to see everyone die to make an emotional connection, and that the 400,000 men on the beach make a collective protagonist. Unpaid Intern Jeff moderates and keeps the boys in line.
