We sat down with Kizzi Nkwocha, the Editor of numerous digital mastheads, to discuss the positives of proactivity and the role property plays in gaining financial freedom.
Kizzi, you are the publisher of some of the most exciting digital mastheads – from The Property Investment Magazine to Kizzi’s Business Game Changers. How did you get started, and how did you get to this point?
My publishing background started with curiosity. I firmly believe that the quality of our lives is determined by the quality of the questions we ask. Ask dumb questions and you get dumb answers. Ask smart questions and you get smart answers. A few years ago, I was talking to a friend about financial freedom; what it is, why it’s important, and how to achieve it. We discussed this for a while and, at the end of the evening, I decided to ask more people about their perspective on financial freedom. So, I announced that I was going to publish a book called Financial Freedom Explained.
The book was an opportunity for me to pick the brains of some of the smartest people in business, learn as much as I could about the subject, and, hopefully, provide answers for other people too. When the book was completed, it was nothing short of a revelation for me. Of the eighteen contributors to the book, 80% all said the same thing: property. It seemed that, despite their differences in age, nationality, and even social background, the vast majority agreed that property was a vital key to financial freedom. Who knew?
After publishing the book I decided I wanted to know everything I could about property (remember, ask smart questions). So, I began publishing an online magazine dedicated to property investment. I called the magazine The Property Investor. I know … thinking small was never one of my problems.
The Property Investor at www.tpimag.com continued to grow strong and taught me a hell of a lot about property investment. It also encouraged me to start magazines for game-changing entrepreneurs, finance specialists, a publication for logistics, cryptocurrency, and even energy healing. That was how I got into publishing magazines. A passion for asking questions and helping others find answers. And, once I created the platforms, I found (often novel) ways of monetizing them so they could grow and expand their influence.
You recently launched a podcast “Kizzi’s Friday Game Changers” – what inspired the podcast?
I’m passionate about showcasing excellence. I admire anyone who manages to innovate, individuals who achieve extraordinary success in their chosen field, and people who can mentor others. A couple of years ago, I even considered changing my job title to Excellence Catalyst but figured I’d need to refine it a little. Anyway, this need to seek out truly game-changing people encouraged me to launch my own podcast show that would showcase innovators and disruptors. Not so much people who think outside the box; rather, people who think there is no box. These are the people who give me energy and inspiration. And these are the people I speak to every week on Kizzi’s Friday Game Changers.
How do you decide what guests you want to showcase?
If reading their profile makes me want to slap my forehead and say “wow,” they’re in. If I know that this particular individual has overcome incredible challenges to achieve a level of success in their field that others can only aspire to, they’re in. If, on the other hand, I read their profile and it makes me want to shrug my shoulders and say “meh,” they’re probably not right for the show. I believe that the two most important days in our lives are: the day we’re born and the day we find out why.
If you’ve found out why and are living your purpose, you’re in.
What sort of insights do listeners get from the podcast series?
Hopefully, each person I’m privileged to speak with will encourage our listeners to keep on grinding. The message is that being a game changer is hard work. And hard work hurts – but it works. The truth is that sometimes we can’t say (with any level of personal integrity) that we can definitely do something right now. But, just listening to some of my guest’s stories will reinforce the idea that, even if you haven’t been able to achieve your goal today, it’s possible. It’s possible to make a difference. It’s possible to work for a higher cause than money. It’s possible to live a life of purpose and meaning. It’s possible as long as you don’t give up. That’s what I’m hoping our listeners will walk away with after every show.
And finally, what advice do you give to others looking to launch their own podcast or digital publication?
A great question. I think my advice has to be to hold on to your ideas as if your life depends on it, because it does. Find a mentor – someone who’s done what you want to do – and learn from them. Success leaves a trail. All you have to do is look for it. Figure out what problem your digital publication is going to help them solve and how you can be of service to your readers. The truth is you can’t lead until you learn to serve, and if you help people get what they want, what you want will come naturally.
