The Brief
University of Hell, an independent book publisher in Portland, Oregon, showcases artists with bold, thought-provoking voices, specialising in intimate works that reveal raw, everyday human experiences. They wanted a partner to bring their brand into a dynamic digital presence. The Big Smoke embraced the challenge, designing a unique online experience that reflects University of Hell’s distinctive edge.
Working with an existing and brilliant style guide, The Big Smoke design team went to work crafting an interactive experience that leveraged the University of Hell’s carefully crafted hand-drawings, icons and colour palette, giving careful consideration to desktop, tablet and mobile experiences.
We integrated the existing University of Hell Shopify e-commerce platform, together with the new WordPress site to create a seamless end user experience that ensures the user stays in a familiar brand.
Lastly, we added some tasteful and not-so-subtle motion effects to the experience to bring the new on-brand site to life.
The Outcome
Since launching the new website, the University of Hell has experienced remarkable growth in user engagement and revenue performance. They have seen significant upticks in site visit duration and page visits, alongside a notable increase in revenue.
